Maps for Maths

The Maps for Maths digital resource includes 27 Maths Mind Maps suitable for Grade 8 and 9 learners (or parents, educators or professionals supporting these learners).  It can also be used by older learners to revise and consolidate some basic Mathematical concepts.

I developed the original resource in 2010 and this resource is titled: The Power of One Piece of Paper, More Metacognitive Support. 

In October 2023 I created the digital version of the resource (Maps for Maths) for my e-shop.

What makes this resource unique?

• Each Maths topic is covered on one page in the form of a mind map (some topics on 2 or 3 maps) and therefore it is easy to see all the relevant main ideas related to the topic.
• Information about being the 'CEO of your Own Brain' and thinking skills icons are included in the resource, so it is more than just a Maths resource.
• Icons for the basic thinking skills, that are important when thinking about the topic, are included in a speech bubble at the top of each map so that it is easy to refer to them.

Some background related to the resource

As a private occupational therapist, learning health consultant and coach, I work with older primary school learners, high school learners and adult learners. I am passionate about infusing the development of thinking skills, metacognitive skills and learning skills into all my interventions. Providing realistic and hands-on intervention, to help my clients to achieve their academic and learning goals, is important to me.

We all want to provide effective intervention. Considering the time and/or financial constraints of learners, as well as the ongoing school curriculum demands, can however be challenging. I do reflection and action research to improve my personal and professional effectiveness all the time. And in the process, I have identified one key activity that I spend the most time on with the majority of learners - MAPPING.

When I created this resource, I used a lot of Mind Maps.  In the past decade or more my focus however changed to using THINKING MAPS. But the fact remains!  Mapping is a powerful strategy to develop thinking skills, metacognitive skills and learning skills.
