Empowering Effective Thinking and Lifelong Learning

Lifelong learning is my passion, and it has shaped my journey as an occupational therapist with over four decades of clinical experience. My mission is to help school-aged children and adult learners “Be More Effective Thinkers and Learners.”

Specializing in Metacognitive Intervention and Learning Health

Since 1998, I’ve specialized in metacognitive intervention and learning health, focusing on older primary school learners, high school learners, and adults. I hold certifications as a Cognitive Enrichment Advantage (CEA) trainer (since 1997) and Thinking Maps trainer (since 2011). My ongoing professional development includes numerous courses on the development of thinking and learning.

Leadership in Cognitive Education

My dedication to thinking and learning extends to leadership roles:

  • Board Member of the International Association for Cognitive Education (IACESA) for two decades (President from 2013-2015).
  • Founding Member of Thinking Schools South Africa (TSSA), established by IACESA.
  • Honorary Member of the Institute for the Advancement of Cognitive Education (IACE), which evolved from IACESA.

Sharing Knowledge Through Training and Online Courses

For over 30 years, I’ve conducted training for professionals, educators, and parents on metacognitive skills, executive function, and learning strategies. Empowering others through my expertise has always been a core value.

In 2020, I began developing online courses, an exciting new chapter in my journey. These courses have already reached learners in over 65 countries! I’m committed to creating more content to help individuals of all ages—learners, parents, educators, and professionals—unlock their potential and become more skillful in their roles.

A Bit About Me

Beyond my professional work, I find balance through daily walks, which I use to destress and meditate. I dedicate time to researching and learning about spiritual growth, self-development, health, thinking, and learning. Most importantly, I cherish spending time with my family and grandchildren.

Registrations

I am a registered occupational therapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I am also a member of The Occupational Therapy Association of South Africa.
